Description
Clay closed vessel (alabastron) from the tholos tomb of Kamilari in the Mesara. Vases of this type were used to store perfumed oils or other liquids and probably accompanied female burials. This example is decorated with geometric motifs in brown on a light ground. Its stylistic similarity to two other alabastra with birds and fish has led to the hypothesis that they were all produced by the same workshop operating in the wider Phaistos area.
