Description
A unique vessel among the pottery of the Lebena cemetery, standing out for both its size and its shape. It appears to have been among the vessels accompanying one of the first burials in Tholos Tomb II at Yerokambos. Its specialness may be connected to the social status and prestige of the people who first used the tomb. The holes in the base of the large hornlike handles were used to tie the lid to the body of the pyxis. The early Minoan I period in the Mesara is characterised by a plethora of strangely shaped vessels, most of them from tombs.
