Description
Vessel with a tall cylindrical foot set on a disc base and supporting a wide bowl. The whole surface is covered with polychrome decoration in the Kamares Style. The vessel has been identified as a lamp based on other similar objects in clay and stone. However, features such as the elaborate polychrome decoration on the interior of the bowl, the lack of a spout for the wick on the rim, and the hole in the centre of the bowl, communicating with the hollow foot, make it unlikely that the vessel was actually a lamp. It seems more probable that it was a fruit-stand.
