Description
Amphora with piriform body, tall neck and two vertical handles, the whole representing a woman with upraised arms. Oval mouth and disc base. It has brownish-black painted decoration on buff slip, with horizontal bands around most of the body apart from the central section, where there are two double axes vertically arranged. This may be a special shape produced by a local pottery workshop in the Archanes area. Probably intended for ritual use.
