Description
Bronze hydria (water-jar) with vertical handle on the upper part of the vessel and horizontal handle on the lower body. It is made of a single hammered sheet of bronze, while the two handles are attached to the body with rivets. Large hydriae of this type were usually undecorated and made by riveting together three or four horizontal strips of bronze. The preservation of such valuable vessels provides information on the techniques used to make metal vessels and their use for display at banquets, given that metal objects were often recycled so their valuable material could be reused.
