Description
Jug with globular body, tall narrow neck, horizontal double rim and cylindrical handle rising above the rim. Clay jugs of this shape are fairly uncommon and are thought to imitate metal prototypes. This example was found stored with fourteen rhyta of various shapes in House Cm. It has been argued that these vases were used in rituals in which members of other households also participated. The ritual use of jugs of this type is confirmed by some Minoan depictions, the most impressive being that carved on a stone triton-shaped vessel from Malia. It depicts Minoan genii using a jug with a double rim in some sort of ceremony.
