Description
Large, deep conical vessel with two horizontal handles, tubular spout and flat base, in the Koumasa Style. The painted decoration in red on a buff ground consists of four pairs of large, filled triangles joined at the tips and extending vertically across the vessel, giving the impression of dividing it into four. The dialogue between the vertical and horizontal axes of the vessel, as they are defined by both its shape and its decoration, is a characteristic feature of the Koumasa Style, a typical ware of the Early Minoan IIA period. Another basic characteristic is the linear decoration of dark red or brownish-black on the light-coloured surface of the vessels.
