Description
Very small stone bowl found in Tomb III of Tomb Complex I/II/III at Mochlos. It is known as a “bird’s-nest” bowl due to its shape. This is the most common shape in Crete between Early Minoan III and Middle Minoan IA. It is chiefly found in cemeteries, where it was used to store perfumed unguents or offerings to the dead. Stone vase production was highly developed in Prepalatial Crete, while some examples have also been found at archaeological sites outside the island, attesting to the exchange and trading relations of the time.
