Description
Head of female figurine, probably standing. The head is tilted up, with a pointed nose and chin. The face, neck and ears are painted white, while the eyebrows are rendered in black. The figure is wearing a tall hat, decorated on both front and back with linear motifs in black and white on a pink ground. Human figurines, in general, are believed to represent the worshippers who offered them at the sanctuary. Most of the female figurines from Petsophas are standing, 10-15 cm high, with stylised faces. Their clothing, hats and hairstyles are emphasised. The worshippers’ dress and coiffure seem to have indicated their identity. Most of the female figurines are wearing the same type of tall hat, an element projecting their communal rather than individual identity.
