Description
Clay bathtub larnax with painted decoration. It comes from a tomb in the Late Minoan cemetery of Alatsomouri in Pacheia Ammos, which contained two bathtub larnakes and a small number of clay vases. On one long side is a young bull and a cow suckling her newborn calf, while a stylised octopus covers the whole of the other side. The bathtub larnax type, usually with a horizontal handle in the centre of each side, is mainly found in East Crete, with very rare examples in the centre and west of the island.
