Description
This rounded footed goblet bears the mottled decoration characteristic of Vasiliki Ware. This type of cup and the beaked jug are typical tableware shapes of the Early Minoan IB period. The mottling on Vasiliki Ware, ranging from very dark brown to orange-red, is the result of using paint rich in iron oxide and controlled firing in the kiln. These vessels were produced by highly specialised potters in one or more workshops in East Crete.
