Description
Simple funnels, with globular body and cylindrical pouring stem, were used for everyday decanting and filtering of liquid commodities. The lack of decoration differentiates them from the rhyta, vessels which served the same function but appear to have also been used in ritual practices. The fact that the whole body is coated in red paint may be an attempt at waterproofing the porous surface of the clay as much as possible, to make it less absorbent when decanting liquids such as olive oil.
