Description
Small wide-mouthed jar with body widening towards the base. It stands out for its decoration in white and red on a brownish-black ground. Besides the solid bands decorating the jar, the zone of white fish on the upper body is particularly interesting. The use of figurative motifs (animals or human forms) gradually began to make its appearance in the Early Minoan III period, continuing into Middle Minoan I, while the combination of red and white ornaments was introduced in Middle Minoan IA. This jar was found together with fourteen other similar vases in a room in House A in Vasiliki. All fifteen were probably produced by the same workshop and perhaps even the same artisan.
