Description
Teapot with eyed, beaked spout and vertical handle, decorated in white on a brownish-black ground. There is a row of dots around the short neck, groups of diagonal zigzag lines and rows of horizontal lines on the shoulder, and a double curved line on the lower body. This vase is an example of the rich repertoire of White-on-Dark Ware, which appeared in Early Minoan IB and peaked in Middle Minoan IA in East Crete. This form of decoration was mainly applied to serving vessels such as jug, cups, teapots and deep or shallow plates. Their rich decoration probably made them a means of displaying the social status of their owners at dinners and banquets.
