Description
Clay cylindrical vessel stand topped with horns of consecration. Behind the row of horns is a deep groove and a ring on which vessels containing offerings to the deity were placed. The body of the stand is open at top and bottom, while it consists of three wide projecting rings delimiting the main zones of painted decoration with motifs such as concentric lozenges and cross-hatching. On the two lower zones are decorated rectangular panels alternating with rectangular window-shaped openings with a central pillar. The upper zone bears horns of consecration, a symbol that crowned religious buildings. Fenestrated stands of this type borrow elements of Minoan architecture. They appear in Crete in Late Minoan IIIA and continue to the end of the Bronze Age.
