Description
Beaked jug with a simple base, a vertical grooved handle and a low neck with ring, the last two features echoing metal prototypes. The vase is made of fine clay fabric and decorated in black paint on buff slip with motifs of the Marine Style of the Special Palatial Tradition. There are three starfish on the shoulder and three tritons among lush seaweed on the main body, while the neck is decorated with a foliate band and the handle with chevrons. The jug was used for the temporary storage, transport and decanting of liquids, perhaps for symbolic/ritual purposes.
