Description
Chalcedony lentoid sealstone with a seated female griffin, a fantastical creature with the body of a lion and the head and wings of a bird. The griffin was an important symbol, borrowed from the Near East, which appears in various art forms of the prehistoric Aegean. The griffins in the fresco that adorned the Throne Room of the palace of Knossos are wingless.
