Description
Bronze brazier with repouss? ivy-leaf decoration on its broad rim and a long cylindrical handle with relief rings. The handle is made of a folded sheet of metal, its horizontal seam secured by rivets. The brazier would have been used to transport hot coals, like its clay counterpart, but it was essentially a prestige item. This example is one of the precious metal vessels and many other objects abandoned in the Minoan palace of Zakros after its destruction. This fact led the excavator to suppose that the space of the place was considered sacred and inviolable after the destruction.
