Description
Standing bronze female figurine. The hands are raised in front of the face, in one of the characteristic gestures of adoration depicted in bronze worshipper figurines. Particular emphasis is placed on the skirt, which has converging flounces at front and back. The figurine was found in the Villa of Agia Triada in the early 20th century. Although information on the find context is scanty, the figurine was probably discovered in Room 7a of the Villa, together with other bronze figurines of men, women and agrimia (wild goats). Figurines of this type were offered as votives at shrines, but in this case the insufficient excavation data make it impossible to say whether the figurines came from a room that was used as a shrine, or whether they were simply in storage when found.
