Description
Bronze basin with relief decoration of lily-like flowers on the rim and handle. To make vessels of this type, the bronzesmiths cast bronze sheets up to 2.5 mm thick and hammered them with stone hammers of different sizes. The rim of this vessel has been hammered outwards, while a second sheet of bronze has been attached on top of it as a covering. The handle is secured by four rivets. The basin is part of an assemblage of metal vessels from the Northwest Treasure House, an upper-class residence on the periphery of the Knossian palace, which was used during the Neopalatial period (1600-1450 BC).
