Description
Limestone ritual mace from the Treasury of the Shrine of the palace of Zakros. This is one of the three intact maces which were found together and whose purpose was clearly ritual, as their findspot attests. The fact that they were primarily used as sacred symbols is confirmed by ritual scenes on Minoan seals, depicting priests in ceremonial processions holding similar maces with long handles.
