Description
Imported Egyptian vase of porphyritic basalt, converted into a Minoan bridge-spouted jar. Found in the Treasury of the Shrine of the palace of Zakros. The reuse of the vase is apparent from the added spout made of a different, local material. On the outer surface are shallow depressions which were inlaid with white pigment to resemble the crystals of the original material. The vase was converted from a container into a jug for pouring liquids.
