Description
The trefoil-mouth oenochoai (wine jugs) of the Hellenistic period are standardised products with widespread dissemination and a long period of use. They vary in size and also present many minor variations in their proportions, decoration and formal details depending on the place of production. Their common feature is the mouth of the jug, a stylised three-lobed clover leaf. This undecorated oenochoe is probably the work of the Phaistos pottery workshop. The body is almost spherical, with a tall cylindrical neck and strap handle. The rim is strongly modelled, forming a channel towards the interior of the vessel.
