Description
Fragment of a large marble krater preserving a false handle and part of a two-line dedicatory inscription on the outer surface of the body. It briefly refers to the dedicator Ermeros and the honoured deity, Zeus Thenatas. This is a unique epigraphical testimony allowing the identification of the sanctuary of Amnisos. The text is as follows: [Τηνὶ] Θενάτᾳ [Ἑρ]μέρως. Translation: To Zeus Thenatas Ermeros (dedicated the vase).
