Description
Terracotta plaque with Bellerophon on Pegasus, brandishing his sword, presumably against Medusa, who is not depicted. Plaques depicting heroes are often found among the votive offerings to sanctuaries. Bellerophon was a popular hero and his victorious battle against the terrible snake-haired Medusa symbolised the victory of good over evil and fear.
