Description
Part of a fragmentary female head which may have formed part of a ritual vessel. It is half life-size. It is particularly carefully made, especially in the transitions between the curves and angles of the head, which are rendered smoothly and with naturalistic proportions. The facial features are also naturalistic, clearly rendered with great artistry and highlighted with reddish-brown and red paint. The work reflects the artistic choices of the Late Minoan period, as it is the product of an era of realism in anthropomorphic coroplastic, particularly in the faces of figurines, in contrast to the stylisation of the following Geometric period.
