Description
Distinctive clay askos (oil flask). An arched handle connects the two spouts, one cylindrical and the other trefoil. The spouts correspond to two separate cavities inside the vessel. The black-glazed surface is decorated with floral motifs, vine tendrils with grapes, and olive branches in theWest Slope Style. This particular type of askos originated in the Classical period and was used for olive oil and vinegar. It is a very rare type, especially in Crete.
