Description
This iron spearhead was found with four others accompanying the male burial in Tomb T.16 in the Geometric cemetery of Eltyna. Their deposition attests to the wealth and valour of the deceased. The spearhead was deliberately bent when it was placed in the tomb. This is a common custom, indicating the ritual destruction of the personal items of the dead: the weapon of the deceased warrior is “killed” in order to accompany him. The spearhead shape and type indicate that it probably originates from Cyprus or the East. The type is often found in Cretan cemeteries of the Geometric period.
