Description
This stone vase has a disc base, globular body, low cylindrical neck, flat rim with incised lines and two lugs at the widest point of the body. A wide groove runs around the shoulder. This is a Minoan vase imitating older Egyptian-type vessels. Two examples of the Egyptian vases from which Minoan artisans drew their inspiration have been found at Knossos, while the corresponding Minoan vessels, made of good-quality hard minerals (gabbro, limestone, basalt and marble) have been found at Knossos, Katsambas, Gournes, Palaikastro and other sites of Neopalatial Crete.
