Description
faience bowl with blue-green glaze after firing. The base is almost flat with a slightly curved surface. The body is hemispherical with a central boss. The outside is decorated with two pairs of animals in relief and floral motifs, while the boss on the inside bears a relief rosette. The bowl imitates Egyptian vessels in the “Low Relief” style of the Third Intermediate Period. Its discover as a funerary offering at Knossos indicates the city’s connections with both Egypt and Eastern Greece, attesting to its outward-looking attitude on the maritime trading routes of the period.
