Description
Fragment of the scenes on the sides of a four-sided stand found in the Idaean Cave. It probably belongs to the same stand as fragment Χ186. Here we see two helmeted warriors with shields on one of the supporting rods of the stand. The rod is shaped like a stylized chariot with the addition of a four-spoked wheel and a horse. Under the horizontal rod bearing this scene the head of another helmeted warrior is visible, meaning that the same motif was probably repeated in the decorative zone below. Stands were supports for bronze cauldrons, highly valuable prestige vessels forming a distinct category of find at the Idaean Cave and indicating its wealth and status.
