Description
Bronze Corinthian-type helmet produced by a Cretan workshop, which reveals the high quality of the Cretan metalwork of the period. The outer surface is decorated with rich relief motifs. There are two winged horses on each side, while the surface is filled with wavy lines, bands and floral motifs. Above the zone corresponding to eyebrow level, the decoration terminates in two snake heads. The helmet is one of the many votive offerings of weapons and armour discovered at the Sanctuary of Aphrodite in Axos.
