Description
Bronze kouros-type figurine. The arms are stiffly attached to the body while the left leg is extended slightly forward. The figure is wearing a headband and a belt. Although it displays many of the features of the Orientalising Style of the Geometric period, the naturalistic tendency of the Archaic period in Crete is becoming apparent. The kouros type reflects the ideals of youthful beauty, strength and virtue, the main values of Cretan aristocratic society. The figurine may have been dedicated to the sanctuary by an affluent youth of the time.
