Description
Bronze kouros-type male figurine, carefully and skilfully made. Only the upper body, parts of the arms and the head survive. At the lower end of the body is visible part of the belt worn by the figure. Although made in Crete, probably by local artisans, this fragmentary figurine combines Ionic and Egyptian elements. The kouros type reflects the ideal of decorum which, together with valour, formed the two basic principles of the education of Cretan youths in the Archaic period.
