Description
Bronze hemispherical bowl with thick walls. Under the rim is an incised ropelike band with a Phoenician inscription recording the owner’s name (“Cup of Χ, son of Υ”). It is evidence that the Cretans had already come into contact with the Phoenician script in the 10th century BC. The bowl appears to have been made in Phoenicia and deposited as a funerary offering accompanying the burials of two women at Knossos.
