Description
Bronze worshipper figurine with distinct facial features. His attitude and his gesture with arms bent on the chest, fists tightly closed, are associated with ritual physical codes. It probably represents the dedicator’s participation in a purification ceremony. Many of the elements and the overall conception survive in later figurines from the Syme Sanctuary. The Sanctuary was founded in the Prepalatial period, c. 2000 BC, and remained in use until the 7th century AD. Over the millennia, the cult traditions and the deities worshipped changed, but the site never lost its cult significance.
