Description
Composition of plaques and inlays of figure-of-eight shields, papyrus flowers and warriors’ heads in boar’s-tusk helmets. The relief ivory pieces covered a valuable, probably rectangular casket or stool. The shields and male heads with their characteristic helmets summarise the Mycenaean pictorial repertoire of the period. The assemblage was found in the side chamber of a tomb containing a rich female burial, probably that of an high-ranking figure of the time.
