Description
Basket-shaped libation vessel decorated with four rows of double axes in black on a buff slip, in the Special Palatial Tradition typical of Late Minoan IB. It has two tall handles, a flat upper body and a cylindrical base. On the underside of the base are three concentric circles and a pouring hole for libations. The vessel was found in Building BQ in the Minoan town of Pseira, together with other fine vases (mainly rhyta) in the Special Palatial Tradition of Knossian origin (such as the Late Minoan IB Marine Style rhyton ΑΜΗ Π5408 and the pyxis-shaped vessel ΑΜΗ Π5406), which were stored for use in a ceremony or procession.
