Description
The steatite “Boxer Vase” is decorated with boxing and bull-leaping scenes in four zones. The two upper zones depict a procession of boxers and bull-leaping, while the two lower ones contain boxing scenes with pairs of boxers, vividly depicting the victors’ triumph over their fallen opponents. The figures are strongly and realistically rendered, their clothing and stance reminiscent of those of modern boxers.
