Description
This vase is a typical example of the output of Cypriot pottery workshops, specifically Red Lustrous Wheelmade Ware. It is a small spindle-shaped vessel with a narrow neck, apparently used to transport small quantities of perfumed oils and other scented materials, as recent laboratory analyses have shown. Vases of this type have been found at many East Mediterranean sites. Their discovery at Gournia and Kommos proves that Minoan Cretan communities participated in the extensive exchange and trading networks of the Late Bronze Age Mediterranean.
