Description
As of L. Lollius. The obverse displays a head of Artemis right with bow and quiver on shoulder, the upper ends just visible. In the lower right field is the numeral B. On the obverse is the goddess’s sacred animal, the deer, standing right. In the field is an inscription with the name of the Roman official L. LOL-LI-VS, otherwise unknown, and the numeral Δ. Although the coin does not bear the name of the city, it is almost certain that in the years when Crete was controlled by Mark Antony some Latin issues were produced at Knossos. Based on the finds, they appear to have circulated and been used across the island.
