Description
This exquisite miniature painting of seven cypresses was discovered in 1951 in a house of the Neopalatial settlement of Prasas. A zone 11.5 cm high contains a row of miniature golden-red cypress trees on a buff ground. This is a rare depiction of conifers, which, according to many scholars, covered large areas of Bronze Age Crete. The artist, identified by Mark Cameron as the painter of the House of the Frescoes, has rendered the foliage in an impressive range of hues.
