Description
Headless terracotta statue of Aphrodite, standing with her left foot forward and her left lower leg back and to the side. She is wearing a long, sleeveless chiton with a deep V-neck, gathered under the breast with a wide pleat on the right. The himation is caught up on the left shoulder, forming many narrow pleats falling in diagonal folds on the front and oblique folds on the right side. The chiton falls in vertical pleats from under the breast to the lower legs. The left arm is missing from the shoulder, while part of the right upper arm is preserved. The shape of the body is visible under the chiton, as is the right buttock. A lump of clay on the back of the body, on the left, may be intended to balance the statue. The whole surface is coated in buff plaster.
